Playing for change : la Paix à travers la musique

In the age of the coronavirus pandemic, with everybody stuck in their homes and mandated social distancing practices in effect worldwide, this initiative seems all the more appropriate, given the circumstances.

Throughout the past week or so, Robbie Robertson has noted an uptick in interest in “The Weight” and, particularly, the Playing for Change performance, and the guitarist spoke with Rolling Stone in a new piece about the power the song provides to people at this current point in time:

Playing For Change: Peace Through Music

Meet Mark Johnson and Jonathan Walls, who collaborated to create an incredibly moving concept and film:  Playing For Change – Peace Through Music.  Wow!

Johnson came up with the concept ten years ago in the Big Apple when he heard two Buddhists monks playing music in a subway stop, mesmerizing the usually callous New Yorkers.  The film, which is 75 minutes of musicians from all over the world collaborating to make magic, has taken three years to make.  The film should be released in 2009 if it gets distributed.  Playing for Change – Peace Through Music is more than a film,  It’s a movement for our global village.

veut faire changer le monde en musique, apporter un peu de paix que ce soit en fournissant à des musiciens les outils pour exercer leur art ou en ouvrant des écoles à travers le monde.

Ils ont eu la bonne idée d’en faire un documentaire, et l’encore meilleure idée de faire jouer des morceaux par des groupes à travers le monde, chacun ajoutant sa touche au fur et à mesure.

Ça donne, pour leur premier opus, une superbe reprise de Stand By Me qui s’étale de Californie au Congo en passant par la Nouvelle Orléans, Amsterdam, l’Afrique du Sud, Toulouse, Rio, Moscou, Caracas, Pise ou Barcelone.

construit et fait fonctionner une école de musique dans le township de Gugulethu et un Centre Artistique à Johannesbourg en Afrique du Sud, afin d'offrir des opportunités de développement et de formation aux jeunes de la communauté.
